Pansy Irene Peterson Kilby, 93, of Old Fort, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Kilby was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Orange, Va., to the late Gurtis Peterson and Mamie Shope Peterson. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was a member of WMU and sang in the choir. She loved her church and enjoyed being involved with any church activity, especially VBS. She always had a heart for children. Mrs. Kilby also enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. Her favorite color was pink! In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester Eugene Kilby; two brothers, Clyde Willis Peterson and Cecil Earl Peterson; and one sister, Hazel Nell Curtis.
Surviving Mrs. Kilby are one son, Larry Kilby and wife, Hazel of Swannanoa; two daughters, Geraldine Ray of Old Fort and Nancy Marshall and husband, Keith of Forest City; one sister, Ruth Ingle of Swannanoa; three grandchildren, Theresa Bartlett and husband, Randy, Kathy Pressley and husband, Herschel, and Todd Kilby and wife, Michelle; two stepgrandchildren, Kyle Marshall and wife, Teresa and Kerri Keever and husband, Brad; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Kilby, Reese Marshall and Morgan Marshall; and her beloved dog, Trixie.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., today (Sunday, Aug. 13), at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., at the church with the Rev. Danny Sprinkle officiating and the Rev. Charles Hughes with closing Prayers. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Community Cemetery.
