Carol Louise Cureton Knupp, 69, of Belmont, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at her residence.
Mrs. Knupp was born Oct. 18, 1948, in McDowell County, to the late William Cureton and Annie Austin Cureton. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. Mrs. Knupp was retired from Buncombe County Social Services and was a clerical supervisor. She was a sweet, caring, and loving, wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening and shopping. Mrs. Knupp was a graduate of Marion High School (Class of 1966), where she excelled in academics and earned several awards. In 2002, she was awarded Outstanding Supervisor for Excellence in Public Service from the Buncombe County Social Services.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Knupp. Surviving Mrs. Knupp are her son, Eric (Leslie) Knupp of Belmont; a brother, Ben (Kay) Cureton of Murphy; a granddaughter, Jolie Knupp of Belmont; a nephew, Tom (Deidre) Cureton, of Black Mountain; two nieces, Carrie Knupp of Sanford, Tammy (Sean) Williams of Canton, Ga.; and two great-nieces, Danielle Cureton of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Sarah Williams of Canton.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 29, at 12 p.m., at Kirksey Funeral Home, with Pastor Rayburn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Marion will follow the service.
