NEWTON Brenda Smith McCrary, 55, of Newton passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017. She was born Sept. 14, 1962, in Lincoln County to the late Paul and Mildred Carpenter Smith. Brenda attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Conover. She enjoyed taking care of others and was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Haskel Smith and J.W. Smith. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 18 years, Nelson McCrary of the home; son, David Pope and wife, Brandi of Maiden; daughters, Amanda Roberts and husband, Lee of Vale, April McCrary of Conover, Ashley McCrary of Newton, Kim James of Conover; brothers, J.B. Smith and wife, Sis of Newton, James Smith and wife, Missy of Conover; sisters, Prue Angel and husband, Jim of Lincolnton, Joann Hedrick of Catawba, Patricia Shook and husband, Bill of Vale, Jessie Stephens and husband, Max of Hickory, Rita Pope and husband, Todd of Catawba; grandchildren, Kerigan McCrary, Devin Honaker, Summer Honaker, Evin Honaker and Jaxon Roberts, Aquavies Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews . A service to celebrate Brenda's life will be held Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at 2 p.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Conover. The Rev. Brian Correll will officiate. Burial will follow in the Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Those serving as pallbearers are Steve Smith, Bobby McCrary, Travis Gates, Perry Pope, Aquavies Hunter and Gregory Shook. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1405 Emmanuel Church Rd., Conover, NC 28613.
