Mrs. Iris Powell Ramsey, 75, of Nebo, passed away at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care Sunday, March 11, 2018, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Iris was born in Burke County April 30, 1942, to the late Manley James Powell Sr. and Margaret Hellen Stamey Powell. She was a devout Christian whose strong faith was a testament to many. Iris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and sister-in-law, who cherished being able to take care of her family, and anyone who needed help.
She was a problem solver, and had a gift for helping people; her family recalls her as a real life Mary Poppins. She loved to cook and bake, and was grateful for everything. Iris was retired from Henredon, where she worked for well over 20 years.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 32 years, Boyd Warren Ramsey of the home; three children, the Rev. Debbie Barker and husband, Robert of Granite Falls, Randy Jordan of Morganton, Rodney Jordan and wife, Christine of Lincolnton; two brothers, Manley Powell Jr., Charles Edward Powell and wife, Ann of Morganton; two sisters, Carolyn Jane Dale and husband, Russell of Morganton, Elizabeth "Libby" Cook of Nebo; and two additional brothers who preceded her in death, Vernon Ray Powell and Jerry Lee Powell; three grandchildren, Candace Pritchard and husband, Brad, Melanie and Riley Jordan; and one great-grandson, Gavin Pritchard.
A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, March 14, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home of Marion, with the Rev. Debbie Barker officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Bridgewater Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
