Mrs. Wilma Carswell Smith, 61, of Morganton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at her residence, following a brief period of declining health.
Wilma was born April 5, 1956, in Burke County, a daughter of Mr. Odes Sanford Carswell and Mable Patton Carswell. She was a member at Friendly Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dean Smith of the home; daughter, Alice McKinney and husband, Steven of Nebo; grandson, Johnathon McKinney of Nebo; brother, Cleotes "Buddy" Carswell and wife, Marie of Morganton; brothers-in-law, J.R. Smith and Faye, and Grady Smith and Marian; and sisters-in-law Jean McGraw and Tony, Virginia Smith and Ray, Ellen Billings and Jim, Faye McFarland, Irene Parker and Charlie, and Inez Smith.
Also surviving are many other extended family members who she loved and cherished.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Friendly Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Daniel Hensley and Paul Grindstaff officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendly Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Justice conducting the committal service.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
