Mr. Swann was born Sept. 28, 1942, in McDowell County, to the late Clarence Arnold Swann and Effie Boone Swann. He was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Spruce Pine and served as a Deacon.

He served our country proudly in the United States Air Force for 14 years, and he served in the U.S. Army for 11 years. He loved the brothers and sisters he served with in the 211th MP Company and kept in touch with many of them over the years.

After retiring from the military, Mr. Swann was a mechanic and worked as a service manager for Spruce Pine Chevrolet, Spruce Pine Ford and Carolina Tire. Mr. Swann was a very loving and outgoing person. He had a magnetic personality and he loved talking with people. He had a "Pen Ministry" for the past six years. He wore a big, beautiful smile everyday and would hand out his pens that were engraved with the message "Jesus Loves You."
