Evelyn Rash Tyo, 96, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016 at Carolina's Healthcare System-Blue Ridge in Morganton.
Evelyn was born Jan. 6, 1920 in Buncombe County to the late Walter M. Rash and Virgie West Rash. Evelyn was a very caring and giving woman. She was a homemaker and also helped take care of the elderly and children. She loved and enjoyed gaining knowledge and did so by spending her time reading and writing poetry. Evelyn was the oldest and a lifetime member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and her church family.
Evelyn was the oldest and the last of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-four years, Clevie Tyo; son, Larry Tyo; sister, Beulah Creech; and brothers, Lewis, Ray, and Carl Rash.
Left to cherish Evelyn's memory are her four children, Vergie Edwards and husband, Roy of Nebo, Brenda Tyo of Jonas Ridge, Janice Hollifield and husband, Jerry of Marion, and Lloyd Tyo of Glenwood; twenty grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Westmoreland Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim Brewer and Gyles Widener officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the chapel. Interment will follow at Glenwood cemetery.
The family appreciates her grandson, Kenneth Tyo for being her caregiver.
