OLD FORT

Mrs. LaVon Conner Walker, 69, of Old Fort, passed away at her home Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Her beloved husband and family were by her side when she transitioned from this side of eternity to her heavenly home, where she was rewarded with her own crown of righteousness which was laid up for her by her Savior, Jesus Christ. LaVon was a faithful member of Cherry Springs Baptist Church and a devout Christian whose strong faith was a testament to many through her illness.

LaVon was born in Rutherford County, April 30, 1948, to the late Rev. Bill Conner and Wilma Haynes Conner, of the home. She loved the beautiful things this world had to offer, such as the loveliness of her flower garden, the exquisite artistry found in crafts and photography, and the joy that her piano playing and singing brought to others. Proverbs 31:28 speaks perfectly to the life this dear saint lived: "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her cherished husband of 50 years, Randall Walker of the home; three children, Cherelle Walker Pack and husband, Anthony of Pleasant Gardens, Travis Walker and wife, Tracy of Pleasant Gardens, Brandon Walker and wife, Greta of Nebo; her brother, Bill R. Conner and wife, Anna of Old Fort; her sister, Janet Conner McGinnis and husband, Jim of Old Fort; six grandchildren, Tyler Walker and wife, Megan, Cody, Isaiah, Cassie, Jacob, and Toby Walker; three great-grandchildren, Jace, Alexandra, and Cole Walker; a special first cousin who was like a big brother to her, Mike Conner and wife, Nancy; and another special cousin and dear friend, Cheryl Davis Harper.

A celebration of her life will be held today (Friday, Dec. 22), at 4 p.m., at Cherry Springs Baptist Church, with the Revs. Brandon Walker and Marty Conner officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 4 p.m., prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Cherry Springs Memorial Park.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice of McDowell, 575 Airport Rd., Marion, NC 28752.

Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. An online register is available at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.
