Barbara Whisenant LENOIR Barbara Knight Whisenant, of Westbrook Street, Lenoir, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Valdese Hospital. She was born in Caldwell County, to the late Dora Bryant Knight. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lankie L. Whisenant Sr.; son, Lankie L. Whisenant Jr.; and sisters, Georgia Younce, Myrtle Younce and Eletha Waters. Mrs. Whisenant was a secretary for John's Precision Auto Body in Marion and was a member of Gamewell United Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Leonard Whisenant and wife, Anita of Wilmington and Claude Richard Whisenant and wife, Julia of Mills River; two daughters, Charlene Warhurst of Marion and Cynthia Lee Mashburn and husband, John of Marion; one sister, Mavis Knight Allred of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Dora Lynn Clark of Hickory, Cynthia Ann Cannon of Granite Falls, Troy Chester Warhurst Jr., of Lenoir, Katherine Marie Whisenant of Wilmington, Michael James Mashburn, Aaron Lee Mashburn, both of Marion, Wesley Daniel Whisenant, Zachary Joseph Whisenant and Luke Andrew Whisenant, all of Mills River; and special friend, Doug Metz of Hickory; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by grandson, Wesley D. Whisenant and other family members. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends this evening (Friday, July 18), from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. So sorry to hear about Ms. Barbara. She shopped at a store where I worked in Marion and I always enjoyed seeing her. She was a very classy lady.
