The library of West Marion was recently filled with girls interested in being part of this year’s Little Miss McDowell Pageant.
Students tested their taste buds during a recent lab in Susan Higdon's seventh-grade class. Using a substance called PTC, students found out whether they had the gene that allows individuals to taste the bitter compound.

McDowell High School Emergency Services Academy students recently participated in structure fire training in Marion.
During this year’s Project Christmas Food Drive, students at Glenwood Elementary helped collect 2,000 cans of food for the organization. Fifth-graders from the school collected the most canned goods during the food drive. Pictured are the students who helped collect a total of 1,473 cans.
