The McDowell Titans varsity soccer team is hitting the final stretch of the 2017 season. Monday Night in a Northwestern Conference tilt, the Alexander Central Cougars jumped out to an early lead and seized control of the match, shutting out McDowell 6-0.
McDowell (3-15 overall, 1-9 NW 3A/4A), with this setback, has lost five consecutive matches and Monday’s outing is the sixth shutout the Titans have endured this season.
Alexander Central (11-8, 6-5) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first 20 minutes of play. Lisandro Lopez scored the first goal at the 11th minute when his shot attempt deflected off the left bar into the net. Derek Aceituno added a score nearly six minutes later, extending the Cougars margin.
One of McDowell’s best looks at the goal came in the 25th minute when Chase Baird’s shot attempt from inside the box went just right of the goal and out of play.
From there, Alexander tacked on three second-half scores putting the game out of reach. Lisandro tacked on his second goal in the 50th minute. Oscar Lopez made it 4-0 in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick after being fouled in the box.
Edwin Guiterrez rounded out the scoring by placing the ball in the net at the 56th minute.
The Cougars finished the night with a 16-5 shot advantage. Titan goalkeeper Mario Ramirez finished with nine saves.
McDowell is on the road tonight (Wednesday) at Watauga. The next home match for the Titans is Monday, when they host West Caldwell on senior night.
