McDowell High School’s two junior varsity basketball teams concluded their home schedule Tuesday afternoon with a pair of easy victories against Alexander Central.
In junior varsity girls’ action, McDowell scored the first 12 points of the game and used that start to easily glide past the Lady Cougars Jayvees 49-24.
A total of eight Lady Titans scored in the game with freshman Peyton Koone leading the charge with 11 points off the bench.
Three of McDowell’s starters also provided a solid all-around effort. Makenna Parkins (5 rebounds, 3 assists), Naliyah Boyce (5 rebounds) and Daisy Rice (3 rebounds, 2 assists) finished with eight points apiece.
Katie Baker (4 rebounds, 3 assists) finished with four points and Tayla Wood, Makiya Burgess and Madi Smith (4 rebounds) scored two points apiece in the victory.
McDowell 49, Alexander Central 32 (jayvee boys)
In a fashion similar to that of the girls’ contest, the McDowell Titans junior varsity basketball team set the tone from the start, getting out to a big lead en route to a 49-32 victory against the Alexander Central Cougars.
The Titans led by as much as 23-7 after the first 10 minutes of play and were never really challenged after that juncture. Nine McDowell players scored in the home finale with Qualique Garner being the lone player in double figures with 11 points.
Dequan Boyce (3 rebounds) finished with eight points. Tyler Rector netted seven points off the bench.
Trent Lewis (6 rebounds) and Gavin Davis scored six points each. Colby Effler had five points.
Johnathan Ramirez chipped in three points, Dylan Aldridge had two points and Seth Harrison scored one point.
McDowell will finish out the season with a three-game road trip starting Friday at South Caldwell (4 p.m. jayvee girls).
