McDowell Titan wrestler Toney McGee's bid for a second State 4A championship came up one point short Saturday.

McGee fell 2-1 in the 126-pound finals to Holly Springs sophomore Jaxon Maroney at the Greensboro Coliseum. McGee was undefeated prior to Saturday's loss and finished the season 57-1.

It was the third consecutive trip to the finals for McGee, who won a state championship as a sophomore and lost by a single point as a junior. Maroney was also undefeated at 23-0.

McGee is the school's all-time wins leader and its first underclassman state champion. He was trying to become the first two-time champ in school history.
