The McDowell Titans and Lady Titans swim teams both finished sixth in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference meet Tuesday at the Hickory Foundation YMCA.
The Lady Titans scored 188 points, placing behind St. Stephens (347), Watauga (318), South Caldwell (294), Hickory (275) and Freedom (268). Alexander Central (181) placed seventh.
It was the third consecutive conference championship for St. Stephens.
Meanwhile, the Titans totaled 41 points, finishing behind South Caldwell (453), St. Stephens (391), Freedom (311), Hickory (269) and Alexander Central (167). Watauga (39) placed seventh.
It was the second consecutive NWC title for South Caldwell.
Individually, the Lady Titans captured two individual second-place finishes, both by Samantha Robinson. Robinson placed second in the 200-yard medley relay. Robinson swan a 2:20.87, placing behind Hickory’s Anna Durak, who swam 2:15.65.
Robinson also took second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.79, finishing right behind South Caldwell’s Kayana Taylor, who posted a 1:01.43. The third-place swimmer finished more than 13 seconds behind those two.
The Titans had one individual second-place finisher. Hayden Vaughn placed second in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:11.96. Jeremy McBurney of South Caldwell won the race in 1:07.73.
The West 4A Regionals are next up for swimmers who have qualified. The meet is set for Feb. 2 at Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte.
