Several McDowell High athletes qualified for and competed in the West 4A Regional track and field championships last weekend at Providence High in Matthews.

The Lady Titans got some solid performances from their throwers in both the discus and shot put.

Senior Ariel Lineberger placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 98 feet, 11 inches. She was the top individual finisher from MHS.

Summer Bartlett placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 80-07.

The Lady Titans captured seventh, eighth and ninth places in the shot put. Cierra Flack threw it 33-01.5 to finish seventh. Summer Bartlett (32-10) and Autumn Bartlett (32 feet) were right behind her in eighth and ninth respectively. McDowell was the only team to put three athletes in the finals in the event.

For the Titans, Andruw Randolph ran the 300-meter hurdles in 42.69 to finish tenth. Austin Prince made the finals in the 110-meter hurdles and placed seventh with a time of 17.05. Prince was also 12th in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.35.

The 4X400 meter relay team finished eighth. The team included Andruw Randolph, Nicolas Greene, Adam Randolph and Steven Webb.

The Titans’ 4X200 and 4X800 relay teams also qualified for the Regional but could not compete due to injuries.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to next week’s State 4A Championships.
