An early deficit was too much for the East McDowell Trojans baseball team to overcome as they lost to cross-town rival West McDowell 12-8 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans, who had a total of 10 hits in the contest, scored three times in the second along with five more runs in the fourth to lead 8-0 at roughly the midway point in the game.
Elijah Quinn (HR, 3RBIs) Kaden Elkins, Ty Smith (2R) and Logan Duncan (2R) had two hits apiece for West. Quinn’s home run occurred in the top half of the fourth inning.
Ethan Hensley (2B, R) and Braden Beck (2R) added one hit each.
Both teams after the fourth inning began to exchange runs with each other.
West McDowell held a margin as high as 11-3 after five innings before the Trojans scored five of the last six runs in the game to get within the final margin.
Michael Lewis accumulated three hits and a walk to lead East McDowell in a losing effort. Lewis unloaded a three-run blast in the bottom half of the sixth, making it 11-6 at the time.
Ty Blackburn and Chase Coley (RBI, 2R) had two hits each. Noah Higgins, Mason Lamb (R) and Josh Smith added a hit each.
