LENOIR – The 2017-18 junior varsity basketball season is coming to an end this week and the McDowell Titans are ending this campaign on a strong note.

Tuesday afternoon, the Titans made quick work of the West Caldwell Warriors, cruising to a 72-48 win on the road in Gamewell.

McDowell (14-4 overall, 11-2 NW 3A/4A) was never challenged in the contest as the Titans began the game with six unanswered points in the first minute of play and from there used that to propel to a 23-9 margin after one quarter.

The Titans gained their largest margin of the game at 35 points during the third quarter thanks in a part to a 14-2 start to the second half, a surge that put McDowell ahead 53-18 at roughly the midway point of the third.

Four McDowell players scored in double figures with Richard Handy leading the way with 12 points. Qualique Garner and Trent Lewis (7 rebounds) added 11 points each and Gavin Davis had 10 points off the bench.

Johnathan Ramirez (7 rebounds) netted five points. Dequan Boyce (4 rebounds) and Dylan Aldridge scored four points each. Tyler Rector (3 points, 2 assists), Seth Harrison (3 points), Jalen Robbins (2 points) and Mason McPeters (2 points) rounded out the Titans offensive output.

McDowell will conclude its season on the road Friday at rival Freedom (4 p.m. jayvee girls start).
