Titans' Crater wins, but team falls to Reynolds

The McDowell Titans dropped a 7-2 decision to the A.C. Reynolds Rockets Tuesday at home, but it was a memorable day for Titans top seed Cameron Crater.

Crater took out the Rockets’ Conner Reilly in a tight match that included a first-set tiebreaker. Crater captured the victory 6-6 (7-5), 6-3.

McDowell’s other win came in doubles, where Roger Moomaw and Chris Boyette teamed up to beat David Knight and Nathaniel O’Shield 10-2.

In individual matches, the Titans dropped seeds two through six.

Jackson Ray stopped Jacob Whitson 6-2, 6-3 at the second seed. At No. 3, Reynolds’ Heath Parker defeated Ethan Parker 6-2, 6-2. James Kitson topped Boyette 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4.

Oliver Pippin beat Moomaw 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5. Knight topped Walker Catala 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth-seed match.

In doubles, Whitson and Thomas Moomaw fell 8-2 to Ray and Pippin. Ethan Parker and Isaac Smith lost to O’Shield and Gavin Faulkner in a tiebreaker 8-8 (7-3).

McDowell hosted Enka in a makeup match Wednesday. Results were not available at press time. The Titans travel to Roberson Thursday in the regular-season finale. The Mountain Athletic 4A/3A Conference championships are set for next Monday at A.C. Reynolds.
