The McDowell Titans hosted a pair of mountain teams Tuesday night, and picked up wins over both Cherokee and Tuscola.

The Titans (6-2) beat Cherokee 57-23 and stopped Tuscola by a 57-18 score.

In the opener against the Braves, the Titans received six forfeits. Isaiah Daniels (126), Jacob Phillips (152), Jared Lonon (195), Luis Herrera (220), Seth York (113) and Toney McGee (120) all picked up forfeit wins.

Daniels’ win got the match started at 126, and then Alex Guy (132) defeated Cherokee’s Seth Sneed 6-4. At 138, the Titans’ Daniel Maynor pinned Xavier Locust in the third period. McDowell led 15-0 and never looked back.

Gage Honeycutt, wrestling for the first time all season, was pinned by Cherokee’s Jesse Queen at 145. At 160, defending 1A state champ Anthony Toineeta pinned Connor Good.

Cherokee’s Lucas Woodard scored a tech fall over Aaron Buchanan at 170. But Will Dale (182) got the Titans back on track with a pin of Andrew Griffin.

Titans heavyweight Joe Hullett pinned Reef Cothran. McDowell then gave up a forfeit at 106 before the Braves gave two of them right back to finish the match.

In the nightcap, Tuscola jumped in front when Gavin Tannerhill pinned Maynor at 138 in the opening match. But the Titans won the next eight bouts.

Honeycutt took a forfeit at 145. Phillips then pinned Hunter Trull at 152. Good pinned Patrick Colter at 160. Buchanan captured a 9-3 win over Taylor Allen at 170.

Dale (182) defeated Jack Logan. Lonon (195) then scored a dramatic 8-6 win over Dylan Shuler in overtime. Herrera pinned Joseph Hernandez, and Hullett received a forfeit at heavyweight.

The Titans again forfeited at 106, but Tuscola returned the favor at 113 against York. McGee (120) followed with a pin of Logan Robinson. At 126, Daniels was leading Anthony Merk when he was pinned to account for the final.

Next up for the Titans is the West Henderson Falcon Frenzy individual jayvee and varsity tournament this Friday and Saturday.
