Titans place fourth at Maggie Valley

The McDowell Titans golf team is hitting the home stretch in the regular season, continuing a steady course by placing fourth at Maggie Valley Golf Course this week.

With the season winding down, the Titans continue to battle for a regional berth.

T.C. Roberson as a team led the field with a combined score of 337, beating out North Buncombe (340) by just three strokes.

Roberson golfer Matt Sharpstene shot 77 to lead the field individually, with Titan golfer Julian Greene and North Buncombe's Thomas Hockaday both finishing with 82s and tying for second place.

McDowell, with a 353 score, missed out on third place by just two strokes to A.C. Reynolds. Asheville was a distant fifth at 395, Erwin finished sixth at 404 and Enka rounded out the field with a team score of 412.

Individually, Austin Bass shot an 84 for the Titans. Connor Good had a 93 and R.J. Stanley finished with a 94.

Bass and Greene are still in contention for a top-five finish in the league tally.

The teams are at Maggie Valley again next Monday for the MAC 4A/3A championships.
