Simple. Elegant. Rustic. Romantic. All of the elements needed to make anyone’s special day even better, and that is what you will find at Old Fort’s newest event venue, The Pond at Laurel Cove.
Owned by Old Fort residents Patrick and Lisa Ellis, their desire to increase tourism in their part of the county, plus sharing the timeless beauty of their land, motivated the pair to turn their dream into reality.
“This has been in Patrick’s family for over 50 years,” Lisa said during their recent open house. “It used to be a horse pasture and his dad, Dr. George Ellis, put in the pond to serve the horses. There was no house or anything here, and the farmhouse was built in 2010. The ultimate goal is to bring tourism to Old Fort. We feel that it has been neglected for a while, and money has not been put in this section of the county and we want to change that.”
The Ellis’s live in the picture-perfect farmhouse on the property, but as part of their event packages, will even share their living quarters with wedding parties, family and friends to give their clients the best experience.
“Right now, we are renting out the main floor with the venue, so we have a bridal suite, a place for the wedding party and a catering kitchen,” Lisa said.
White church pews overlook the majestic pond where brides and grooms prepare to say ‘I do,’ and a nature trail connects the event-goers to the reception area. You can check yourself at one of the many vintage mirrors hanging on the trees, or enjoy the view on the wraparound porch. The Pond sits on 16 acres minutes from I-40 in Old Fort, and can accommodate small events or larger ones up to 125 guests. They offer multiple packages to fit the client’s need to take the stress out of planning.
The Pond just hosted their first wedding this summer, and it went off without a hitch.
“It was stressful, but it was beautiful, and we got everything where it needed to be,” Lisa said. “We are excited about it. It has been a lot of work.”
Currently they are expanding with an amphitheatre as another option for brides, and even students.
“We would love to have school groups come in and do nature walks,” said Lisa. “If all goes well, and we are successful, we want to put a pavilion where the tent is now, and enclosed pavilion and use it year-round with a kitchen, bathrooms, etc. The ultimate goal is to be able to rent the whole house out to the wedding party. We have five acres that we have already graded out a road, and spots for tiny cabins.”
The Pond at Laurel Cove is located at 1718 Bat Cave Road in Old Fort. Find more information on their Facebook page, visit www.thepondatlaurelcove.com or call 828-442-8631.
