A Boone man who allegedly fled from a vehicle collision was charged after the deputies who found him located just over 44 grams – or 1 ½ ounces – of pot on his person, authorities said Tuesday.

Deputy Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Tony Wade Trivette, 52, address listed as Meat Camp Road in Boone, with possession of marijuana.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, Watson responded to Interstate 40 in reference to a man that had fled from a wreck scene.

Shortly after, deputies received a call of a suspicious man on Industrial Drive trying to get a ride. After some investigation, Watson learned that it was the suspect who fled from the collision.

A search of Trivette turned up 44.7 grams of marijuana.

Trivette’s bond was set at $500.
