A former Burke County teacher and wrestling coach has been indicted on several charges, including an embezzlement charge.

Hampton Marshall Boggs, 31, was indicted on a charge of embezzlement of property, according to an arrest report from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Nine indictments for obtaining property by false pretense also were handed down, said an official with the clerk of court’s office.

Boggs, a former teacher and wrestling coach at East Burke High School, was accused of embezzling $1,476 from the school by lying about expenses related to wrestling camps, according to a previous News Herald article.

The embezzlement occurred over six separate incidents, with Boggs submitting fraudulent check requests with counterfeit emails and requesting reimbursement for money he never paid, the previous article said.

Boggs was given a $40,000 unsecured bond, the report said. His next court date is set for Jan. 23, according to the North Carolina Judicial Branch website.
