A South Carolina driver charged in the death of his Marion passenger last summer was indicted by a grand jury.

A McDowell County grand jury indicted Danny Wayne Lamb II, 24, of Honea Path, S.C., with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired and reckless driving.

On Aug. 18, 2018 at approximately 3:15 a.m., emergency units and law enforcement responded to the intersection of Resistoflex Road and U.S. 70 West in Marion after receiving reports of a vehicle that had gone over an embankment and into a tree.

According to First Sgt. Mark Cline of the N.C. Highway Patrol, the 2002 Dodge pickup truck, driven by Lamb, was traveling northbound on Resistoflex Road toward the highway when it ran off the side of the road, drove down an embankment and struck a utility pole and a tree.

The passenger of the vehicle – 25-year-old Jesse Garron House of Marion – was pronounced dead on the scene. Lamb was transported to Mission Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

In the aftermath of the wreck, Cline told The McDowell News in August that alcohol had been a suspected factor in the wreck. Following consultation with the District Attorney’s office, Lamb was subsequently charged in House’s death.
