IMAGE: 3 injured in Marion collision

At approximately 11:56 a.m. Monday, emergency units from Marion Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad and the Marion Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Sugar Hill Road and Rankin Drive. The driver of the tan-colored Volvo, Austin Patrick of Marion, claimed that he was traveling past the intersection with a green light when a black Ford Explorer coming from Rankin Drive pulled out in front of him. However, according to Marion Police Lt. James Harklerode, Patrick had traveled through a red light as the Ford was turning in. Three passengers in the black Ford, including driver Crystal Whitesides of Nebo, were transported to McDowell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Emergency Services Director William Kehler. Patrick was charged with failure to stop for steady red light, according to Harklerode.
