IMAGE: Shed fire threatens home, no injuries

At approximately 11:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, fire and emergency agencies responded to 1143 Bat Cave Road in Old Fort after receiving reports of a structure fire with a possible person inside. When they arrived, agencies found an outside shed attachment to the house, owned by Charles Metcalf of Old Fort, with heavy smoke and flames. According to Old Fort Fire Chief Ron Richardson, a primary search found no one inside the home at the time of the blaze, which was contained strictly to the shed attachment and did not spread to the garage or inside the house. The cause of the fire, Richardson said, was deemed electrical. Old Fort, P.G., Crooked Creek and Sugar Hill-Montford Cove Fire Departments, McDowell EMS and McDowell Rescue Squad were dispatched or notified to the call.
