A Marion man was arrested and charged after a traffic stop and subsequent foot chase uncovered over two grams of meth, authorities said Friday.

Deputy Jesse Hicks of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Ronnie Leon Goodwin Jr., 31, address listed as Matilda Avenue in Marion, with possession of methamphetamine and resisting a public officer.

Goodwin was also served with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

At 11:33 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, Hicks stopped a vehicle on Ramsey Drive for traffic violations, and found Goodwin driving.

He ordered the suspect out of the car, at which time Goodwin fled on foot. Hicks captured him after a short pursuit.

During a search of Goodwin’s person, deputies found 2.41 grams of methamphetamine.

Goodwin’s bond was set at $12,500.
