A Nebo man was arrested and charged after fleeing deputies on foot and in a vehicle reported stolen from Hickory, authorities said Monday.
Deputy Jesse Hicks of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Leonard Patrick Ramsey Jr., 43, address listed as Zebell Road in Nebo, with possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing to elude arrest.
At 1:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, Hicks was at the intersection of Tatertown Loop and U.S. 221 South and attempted to stop a Volkswagen for multiple traffic violations.
The car sped up, leading the deputy on a pursuit from U.S. 221 South to Pinnacle Church Road to Pinnacle Heights, where he fled from the car on foot. Hicks ran after the suspect and caught him before he hit the woods.
An investigation revealed that the Volkswagen had been stolen from Hickory.
Ramsey’s bond was set at $30,000.
