The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is searching for two people in connection with a murder that occurred on Whitener Road late Wednesday night.

Tony Ly, 36, was shot and killed during what the sheriff’s office believes to have been a disagreement during a gathering at the residence, Lt. Nathan Fisher said in a phone interview.

The sheriff’s office responded to the scene a little after 10 p.m. Wednesday, Fisher said.

James Vincent Rinkines, a 5-foot 7-inch tall, 140-pound black man, and Rose Shutz, a 5-foot 4-inch tall white woman, are being sought, according to the sheriff’s office press release.

“They are considered to be armed and extremely dangerous,” Fisher said.

A murder warrant has been issued for Rinkines, according to the release.

The two are believed to be traveling in a gray 2011 Dodge Avenger with tag number BBV-6158.

Deputies ask that people with information about the case call Investigator Huffman at 828-465-8340.
