A Marion man was arrested and charged after allegedly firing a flare gun at someone who caught him breaking into a car at gas station, authorities said Monday.
Deputy Jeffrey Hill of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Joshua Adam Taylor, 37, address listed as Annie Drive in Marion, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and injury to personal property.
At 11:24 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, Hill and other deputies responded to Samir’s on Sugar Hill Road in reference to a possible shooting.
Deputies arrived on the scene and learned that the victim, 20-year-old Shawn Brown, of Marion, had confronted Taylor when Brown saw Taylor trying to break into his girlfriend’s car. Taylor then brandished a gun and fired a shot at the victim before fleeing the scene.
The suspect was located a short time later in the area and was taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed that the weapon was a flare gun. No one was injured. Authorities later confirmed that Taylor and Brown were not associated with one another.
Officers with Marion Police Department aided in the search for Taylor.
Taylor’s bond was set at $65,000.
