A homeless man was arrested and charged after allegedly stealing batteries and other items from a bulldozer in Marion, authorities said Friday.
Detective Paul Alkire of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged John Mark Jenkins, 27, who is listed as homeless, with breaking and entering, larceny and damage to property.
Deputies responded to 1321 Poole Mountain Road in Marion on Tuesday, July 10, where the owner of the property stated she returned home to find a man atop a bulldozer, belonging to Miller Engineering, that had been parked in her yard.
The man, later identified as Jenkins, had removed two batteries, the seat and other items from the dozer.
The suspect left before deputies arrived, but they found him a short time later at a nearby gas station.
Jenkins’ bond was set at $12,000.
