A strong cold front will move across the region late today. The winds will shift to northwesterly behind the front this evening, and strengthen significantly as low pressure develops well to our north through Friday. The strong northwest winds will continue through the day Friday and then overnight before tapering off Saturday morning.

* LOCATIONS...The mountains and foothills of western North Carolina as well as the mountains of extreme northeast Georgia and Upstate South Carolina.
* HAZARDS...Strong to damaging winds.
* WINDS...Northwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph. The highest gusts will be along and near the Blue Ridge.
* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will likely blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are quite possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
