A tractor trailer overturned into a creek on NC 226A North on Tuesday, closing the road for several hours.
At approximately 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, emergency units and law enforcement responded to NC 226A towards Waites Hollifield Road after receiving reports of a tractor trailer overturning into the creek with a fuel spill.
According to Trooper Kirk Hensley of the NC Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling southbound after the driver’s GPS led him down the mountain before it suddenly over-corrected and overturned, dumping the trailer across two sections of grass and into the creek.
No injuries were reported in the wreck, according to Hensley.
When asked about a potential fuel spill that could lead into the creek, Woodlawn-Sevier fire officials on the scene confirmed that the spill was fortunately contained to the roadway before it had the chance to leak into the water.
NC226A towards Waites Hollifield Road is currently shut down to remove the overturned vehicle, as of 2:45 p.m.
Woodlawn-Sevier Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad, NCDOT and NCHP responded or were notified to the call.
