*UPDATE, 3:50 p.m.: NWS-GSP has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Eastern McDowell County from 6PM Tuesday to 4PM Wednesday. This includes Marion, Nebo, Dysartsville, Fero and Glenwood. Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch are expected, with a few hundreths of an inch of ice expected across the southern
foothills. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph at times, mainly along the higher ridge tops in the mountains.
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the McDowell Mountains in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Affected areas may include Old Fort, Woodlawn and Ashford. Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of one-half to one inch, with ice accumulations from freezing rain around one quarter inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
Precipitation may begin as a snow and sleet mixture late Tuesday, transition to sleet and freezing rain through the evening hours, and then become all freezing rain overnight through Wednesday morning.
