Bad movies -- most people avoid them, but I’m a fan of cheesy films that make you roll your eyes and laugh out loud at their ineptitude or outrageousness.
That’s why I’ve fallen in love with Bad Movie Night at Grail Moviehouse in Asheville.
Every other Wednesday at 9:30 p.m., the theater plays an older horror or exploitation flick (with some added edits for comedic effect), along with trailers from similar movies and screamingly bad music videos.
At the last Bad Movie Night, I saw the film “Prom Night 3.” The ‘90s film with an ‘80s vibe features a teen boy faced with a lot of troubles when his high school’s resident ghost--- a spirit who died on prom night in the 1960s—decides that he needs to be her boyfriend.
In-between scenes of the high schooler’s human girlfriend and ghost girlfriend fighting for his affection, viewers at Bad Movie Night were treated to retro Pepsi Crystal commercials and clips from other advertisements and shows of the era.
If you like cheese—and I’m talking about the descriptive form of cheese, not the kind you eat—then you’ll love Bad Movie Night.
