On Monday, the McDowell County Board of Education will hold their last monthly meeting for the year.

After the approval of the agenda and presentation of the colors, Superintendent Mark Garrett will preside of the election of a new chairman, now held by Terry Frank. Election of the vice chairman, currently held by Terry English, will take place next. Garrett will be appointed as secretary to the board, and Charlie Mae Mace will once again be appointed as administrative assistant to the board.

Garrett will then reaffirm the NC School Board Association Code of Ethics before giving his administrative reports.

School growth certificates will be handed out during staff recognitions. McDowell County Schools media coordinators will present the curriculum feature. Teacher of the Year Renata Crawley will give her monthly report.

During unfinished business will be an update on the Old Fort project. Under new business, board members who attended the NC School Board Association annual conference will give a report. Next, will be a discussion of local supplements and bonuses.

The board will announce a resolution urging the state to take action to remit civil penalties unconstitutionally withheld from the state’s public schools. The resolution says, “..public schools are entitled to the clear proceeds of specific civil penalties by various state agencies…”
