A man has been charged with breaking into a local church, authorities said Monday.

Lt. Josh Jones of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Zachary Allen Mills, 29, address listed as homeless, with breaking and entering.

Jones responded to Vein Mountain Baptist Church, on U.S. 221 South, at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in reference to an alarm.

Upon viewing the church’s surveillance video footage, he saw a white male enter the church briefly then leave.

Jones spotted the suspect, identified as Mills, on U.S. 221 and took him into custody.

Mills got a written promise to appear in court.
