Ten cadets from McDowell High NJROTC marksmanship team traveled to Anniston, Alabama for the Civilian Marksmanship Program Air Rifle Camp.

At the five-day camp, cadets were coached by some of the best NCAA marksmanship athletes. On the final day all students competed in a match in the standing, kneeling and prone positions. Of the 40 competitors, four McDowell cadets finished in the top 10 at first, fourth, fifth and seventh.

An even more impressive feat, all 10 McDowell cadets shot a personal best either in their overall score or in a specific position. While at the camp cadets stayed at Fort McClellan Alabama National Guard base. They also visited a local park for a firework show on the Fourth of July and went to the mall in Anniston. Overall the trip was a good learning experience, cadets said.

“All of our cadets made significant improvements in both their technique and scores,” said Cadet Owen Cook. “We are grateful to the support our team receives. The support form McDowell County School Board for our new electronic targets has significantly improved our team’s shooting.”
