McDowell County will soon hold dedication ceremonies for both the Charters of Freedom display and the third courtroom at the courthouse.
At 10 a.m. Friday, a dedication ceremony will take place on the courthouse lawn for the new Charters of Freedom display. These settings made out of brick contain bronze replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Foundation Forward Inc., a private non-profit organization based in Morganton, donated this display but the county was asked to prepare the site for the settings.
County officials and the NJROTC are expected to take part in this ceremony. The public is asked to bring a lawn chair for this event.
At 8:30 a.m. Monday, the ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for the new third courtroom will take place inside the courthouse. The third courtroom section is located on the top level of the County Administration Building’s parking deck, immediately behind the courthouse. This section also has space for attorney conferences, the criminal clerk’s office and the magistrate’s office.
This addition is part of the county’s project to expand and upgrade the 96-year-old courthouse.
