Emergency personnel investigate explosion at Old Fort home

Fire agencies and law enforcement respond to a structure fire at 68 Palmetto Drive

Fire agencies and Sheriff's Office officials are investigating a house fire as a result of a reported explosion.

Around 2:30 p.m., emergency crews and law enforcement were dispatched to 68 Palmetto Drive off Twin Lakes Road. Upon arrival, a single story mobile home was fully involved on fire.

At the time of dispatch, emergency radio indicated that a subject was inside the home during the blaze. However, no injuries have been confirmed at this time.

According to Travis Piercy of the P.G. Fire Department, agencies conducted a knockdown, extinguish of the fire and mop-up before turning the scene over to law enforcement.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management.

P.G., Old Fort, Crooked Creek and Sugar Hill-Montford Cove Fire Departments, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad, McDowell County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management responded to the incident.
