A Marion felon was arrested and charged after deputies responding to a trespassing call located over 8 grams of meth and a handgun in his car, authorities said Tuesday.

Deputy Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Steven Wayne Rausch, 28, address listed as Joes Drive in Marion, with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a felon.

On Saturday, May 18, Watson responded to Mountain Crest Drive in Marion to a trespassing offense. He located Rausch on the scene and knew there had been reports of drug activity in that area.

A search of the suspect’s automobile turned up 8.6 grams of methamphetamine and a handgun.

Rausch has had a criminal record as early as 2012, with prior listed offenses including possession of a controlled substance, shoplifting and larceny, according to NC Department of Public Safety records.

Rausch’s bond was set at $35,500.
