Filing period for Marion, Old Fort elections starts Friday

This year, voters in Marion and Old Fort will be asked to choose some of their leaders.

The 2019 municipal election will be held in both Marion and Old Fort and the candidate filing period will start Friday at noon and end on Friday, July 19 at noon. Persons interested in filing to run for these offices may do so at the McDowell County Board of Elections in the County Administration Building at 60 E. Court St. in Marion. The fee to file as a candidate is $5, according to the county election officials.

In Marion, two seats on the City Council are up for election this year. These seats are now held by Billy Martin and Don Ramsey.

In Old Fort, three seats on the Board of Alderman will be contested. These seats are now held by Andrew Carlton, Jamie Grindstaff and Jimmie Harris.

Election Day will be Nov. 5.
