Joseph McDowell Historical Catawba Greenway is closed temporarily due to flooding caused by 7 to 10 inches of rainfall received in and around Marion over the past few days.
With the forecast calling for more heavy rainfall later this afternoon and evening, city of Marion crews will clean the greenway on Tuesday. The city anticipates that the greenway will reopen on Wednesday morning, according to a news release from City Manager Bob Boyette.
In the interest of safety and to avoid further damage to the greenway, the public is asked to heed all closures and do not cross any barricades or closed signs on the greenway or any trails.
“The city will strive to complete the cleanup work and reopen the greenway by Wednesday, June 12,” states the news release. “The city thanks the public for its patience while the Greenway is temporarily closed.”
