At approximately 1:28 p.m. Monday afternoon, emergency units and law enforcement responded to 3751 Sugar Hill Road in Marion after receiving reports of a wreck involving a McDowell Transit van. According to Trooper Kirk Hensley of the NC State Highway Patrol, the van – driven by 40-year-old Brandy Leitha Jimison of Marion – was traveling northbound when it overcorrected on the curve, ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Two passengers onboard – Ervin Allison Jr. and Lucy Smith, both of Marion – were treated and transported to Mission Hospital McDowell with non-life threatening injuries. Jimison was transported by personal vehicle to Mission Hospital McDowell and was cited for failure to maintain lane control, according to Hensley. Marion Fire Department, McDowell EMS, McDowell Rescue Squad and NCSHP responded to the call.
