On Saturday, local residents held a food drive to give relief to McDowell High students deemed homeless under the McKinney-Vento Law. Partnering up to make this happen were Robinson’s Martial Arts and Mountain Yoga Tours. McDowell County Public Library was also a sponsor. People brought the food to Robinson’s Saturday morning. “We raised over $1,000 worth of food and monetary donations for food,” said RaeLeigh Burneisen, who operates Yoga Mountain Tours. “We also received gifts for students from Artesana Ice Cream in Marion and Indigo Retreat in Old Fort.” Burneisen said this food drive was just an idea a month ago and another one will be held in September. At the food drive were (from left) Wendy Cream, Nathan Cream, Christina Pike and Burneisen. Pam Pike, Justise and Kacen Beers, Ryker Burneisen, Kyra Bartlett, and Dylan Blair helped as well.
