McDowell deputies search for construction site thieves

McDowell County sheriff’s deputies are hoping the public can help them identify the suspects who have stolen and damaged thousands of dollars’ worth of property at a construction site on two different occasions.

Someone first entered the site on Tight Run Road in Marion between 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 and 7:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8 and took saws, drills, a leaf blower, a harness and other tools, valued at $6,300, owned by R.E. Burns and Sons Co., of Statesville.

On the second occasion, someone entered the site between 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31 and 7 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, stole a $300 leaf blower and caused $12,000 worth of damage to a backhoe, a track hoe and a storage bin.
