Overline: McDowell students volunteering during their summer at year-round school Recently, Eastfield Global Magnet School welcomed back 25 former students undergoing service learning as volunteers. The students are all rising sixth to 12th graders from all secondary schools across McDowell County. Volunteers are reading with students, leading center stations, working with small groups in math, prepping games and activities for the teacher to use, or even writing “Kahoot” questions for a class test review. Students are committed to serving the next three weeks before traditional calendar school starts back, and are arriving and staying throughout the day as their schedule allows. It is such an honor to see our former students return to invest their time and talents and give back to what will be their next generation,” said Eastfield’s principal Michelle Baker. “We like being a school that provides both strong roots from yesterday and powerful wings for tomorrow!”
