Future Teachers of North Carolina (FTNC) students at McDowell High School are hosting a kickball tournament to raise funds for East Coast classrooms devastated by Hurricane Florence.
Get your team together for a great cause and some fun on the side. Sport your sweat bands, tutus, 80's workout clothes or just your regular athletic gear and come on out to Maple Leaf Sports Complex on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Cost is $3 per person to play. Baked goods, coffee, hot chocolate and water will be sold.
Kickball games will be five innings long with nine players to a team. Rules are if you’re running bases, and hit with a ball, you’re out; bounces count; no bunting allowed unless the opposing team has a catcher behind the plate; no stealing bases and no shots to the head.
During the month of October FTNC students collected items for the East Coast with huge donations from Glenwood Elementary, East Middle, National Honor Society, Student Council, Student Services, Math Department, English Department and Spanish Department.
“Currently we are organizing efforts to get these supplies down East,” said FTNC instructor Myra Morgan. “We are unsure how that will work exactly. My students want to go and meet the people we are helping; however they cannot afford hotel money or money at all for the trip.”
