An Old Fort man was arrested and charged after allegedly stealing over $2,000 worth of property and money from his employer’s car, authorities said Wednesday.

Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Houston Allen Burnette, 50, address listed as Salvage Drive in Old Fort, with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny.

On Saturday, May 4, George Waycaster, of Old Fort, reported that someone broke into a vehicle on his property and removed money, two weed trimmers and a sink, valued at a total of $2,100.

An investigation led to Burnette, who worked for the victim.

At this time, none of the stolen property has been recovered.

Burnette’s bond was set at $20,000.
