A deputy who stopped a Jeep with a stolen tag found out the vehicle was also stolen from a Hickory dealership, authorities said Wednesday.

Deputy Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Forest Henry Mask, 41, address listed as Walker Road in Marion, with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of stolen goods.

At 6:42 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, Watson was patrolling the area of Hidden Lake Drive and Walker Road, when he spotted a 2011 Jeep Liberty with a stolen tag.

After a vehicle stop and further investigation, the deputy learned that the Jeep had been reported stolen from Jim Armstrong Subaru in Hickory.

The $11,000 automobile was recovered.

Mask’s bond was set at $10,500.
